Post by: HJarausch on October 16, 2014, 12:27:02 AM
Hi,
what's the roadmap for Python 3.{3,4} support?

Many thanks for some info,
Helmut

I'm also interested in this.  Is there a feature request ticket for this in something like Github or Trac?

I'd like to third this question. I'd really like to use this for my company but all our infrastructure is written in python 3.4...

There is a Python3 port of PP:
https://github.com/uqfoundation/pathos/blob/master/external/pp-1.6.4.1.zip
Please let me know if it works for you.

Hi, Vitalii:

The saved zip file from https://github.com/uqfoundation/pathos/blob/master/external/pp-1.6.4.1.zip can not uncompressed. How to download (and install with Python3) then?

Hi, Vitalii:

OK, it is downloaded by clicking the "View Raw" link; why not just name it "Download"?

After I uncompressed it and run
Code:
python3 setup.py build
, error:

Quote
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "setup.py", line 12, in <module>
from pp import __version__ as VERSION
  File "/home/zh/Downloads/pp-1.6.4.1/pp.py", line 137
    print sout,
             ^
SyntaxError: Missing parentheses in call to 'print'

Obviously, the so-called Python3 port of PP is still Python 2. Where is python3? PS: why you guys always stick to python2? Why not catch up pace with the new version of python3?

Also wondering when python3 support will come.

Looking at the source, seems like:
1.  Obvious print statements need to be reformatted (easy)
2. the user module will have to be dropped (doesn't exist in python3) (just ignore it I guess, when is it necessary and can it be replaced?)
3. the cPickle module will need to be replaced with something else (doesn't exist  in python3)

That's as much as I've found so far..

What is the progress on this? I can try to lend a hand but I'd have to spend some time (I don't know currently what pickle is for yet)

The link is not working anymore. Is this project dead?

That link is dead. However, I see that you can download it here:

@Vitalii do you have any plan to port 1.6.5 to python3? can we give you a hand with that? do you have a shared git repo we can fetch from and submit pull requests to?
